Internet's Out Thoughts

Life has been so odd the past few days. A few days ago I began recoding some pages of my website. I entirely reworked my index page and my about me page. It definitely looks much better on desktop than mobile but if needed can still work on mobile.

After reworking my pages and links to be more organized I went back to websurfing. Applied for more webrings and discovered several lovely sites from web rings I'm already in. I honestly wish the indie web was larger because websurfing personal websites is such a fun pass time compared to scrolling social media. I also created a public email (sleepycalaban@gmail.com) so I could get into email chat culture. With this I posted it on the Melonland digital pen pal forum post in hopes I'll get some people wanting to chat, and maybe send me pictures of their pets!

Today and yesterday took a large hit though. Yesterday my fiance and I started cleaning up part of my parents kitchen because there's a lot of cleaning that needs to be done in the apartment as a whole. About an hour or two iin theinternet ggoe out at about 8pm. After a few hours we stopped and my body was just in this aching pain and still no internet. Because of this we've decided to make the best of it and cleaned off our really old DVD player and hooked it up to a smaller TV we have.

Since then we've been watching movies while using the bigger TV to play the offline games that are on my switch. I do realize now I need a larger SD card so I can have a majority of my offline games installed at all times so I don't have to worry about playing something that's not installed when the internet is out. Also probably going to be adding new offline/split screen games to my wishlist to eventually have more options. We have a technician coming to check out the internet so fingers crossed they can fix it today.

Watching the movies have been really nostalgic and nice. I barely watch movies and use DVDs now that I spend my time on YouTube. I'll probably be changing that around now that we have the DVD player working and some good options. Honestly may have to sale the seven seas at some point to get some more movies that I don't own on DVD.

Over the course of the past few months I've started seeing more and more how worth it it is to archive things/have them downloaded to a flash drive or external hard drive. I always knew it was a good idea but reading posts and now having no internet for this long has really enforced the idea of it.

I never thought I'd find myself to be someone who coded their own website and wants to start archiving things. I know I've always wanted a website but never thought it was something I could have achieved. I'm quite proud of myself with how far I've come in the indie web scene. In my whole life I've never properly been proud of myself or my accomplishments because they felt like nothing to me. It's not what I wanted to do it's what I had to do, like school and grades. But knowing I've wanted my own site since middle school and have actually reached that point? It's amazing and I'm so proud of it.

My website is one of my pride and joys and I just want to show it to everyone I know and even don't know. It has come so far since I started in 2023. I barely knew what I was doing coming in hut now I have a good amount of code memorized and it's much easier to do now. I still have moments where I struggle but I'm almost always trying something new but in the end I always end up figuring it out no matter how long it takes. Funny enough one of my favorite pages at the moment is my resources and site buttons page. I love collecting links to put in there especially ones of lesser known resources and being able to help others out. There's still some sections that are quite empty but I'm hoping to fill them up more as time goes on.

I think that's all for today's blog post. Thank you for reading!
